On July 2, Hallett Power Station was purchased by TRUEnergy Hallett Pty Ltd from AGL Power Generation. The acquisition formed one part of an asset swap agreement with AGL under which AGL purchased Torrens Island Power Station from TRUEnergy and TRUEnergy purchased Hallett Power Station.

The TRUEnergy Hallett Power Station is located at Canowie, between Jamestown and Hallett, and neighbouring the AGL Hallett Wind Farm. Built in 2001, Hallett Power Station has an installed capacity of 180MW and employs six multi-skilled local personnel as well as a third year Instrumentation / Electrical Apprentice. The station consists of 11 highly flexible gas-turbine generators that deliver electricity to the National Electricity Market. On a typical day, it can provide approximately five per cent of South Australia's electricity needs. It generates electricity using natural gas supplied to the station from the Moomba pipeline.

Diesel fuel oil can also be used as a back-up fuel in the event of a gas supply shortfall. As well as a new company and branding (look-out for the teal and lime green!), we welcome as the new Plant Manager, Mike Clee. Mike replaces Frank Murphy, who will remain an AGL employee based in Mount Beauty, Victoria. We wish Frank all the best in his new endeavours. Mike joins us from SEAgas where he had been employed as a Systems Controller since the completion of construction and during the first four years of operation. He lives in Peterborough with his wife and has four children.
