The developers of the Lake Bonney wind farm, Babcock and Brown, have made a $3500 donation to the Penola and District Caledonian Pipe Band. The group used the gift and a $2500 donation from the Penola and District Caledonian Society to purchase new equipment.
At its recent 56th annual general meeting, Wattle Range Council Mayor Don Ferguson was thanked for his efforts in securing the windfarm company sponsorship. The band performed at the biennial Beachport Festival by the Sea in February and a Millicent Choral Society charity fundraiser at the Millicent War Memorial Civic and Arts Centre in May.
It will return to the Millicent venue on September 23 for a fundraising concert to benefit the Ardlair School of Highland Dancing. Band members also provide accompaniment to the ANZAC Day dawn and midmorning ceremonies in Millicent each year.
A number of exMillicent residents are bagpipers and officeholders with the band, including vicepresident Paul Weir and pipe major Janet Bellinger.
